Since it's founding in 1968, the Special Olympics has celebrated the accomplishments of athletes with intellectual disabilities – currently, nearly 3 million athletes in more than 180 countries worldwide – and helped teach society tolerance and respect. Tyler Scott Barnard, 37, of Surprise, Arizona, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2014. Tyler was born on August 17, 1977, in Edmonds, Washington.
