Margaret F. "Maggie" Deeney, age 58, of Hunting Street died Tuesday evening, October 29, 2013 in her home surrounded by her devoted family after a courageous 17 month battle with cancer.
She was the wife of Blair Deeney for over 36 years.
Born September 14, 1955 in Attleboro, she was a daughter of the late Francis and Mary Lou (Adel) Canary.
Maggie grew up in Attleboro and was a 1973 graduate of Attleboro High School. She received a B.A. in education from Worcester State University in 1977 and later a Masters of Education from Worcester State.
She was a beloved elementary school teacher at the Anna Ware Jackson School in Plainville for 36 years, teaching first grade. She was a past president of the Plainville Education Association, past chairperson of the Plainville Professional Rights and Responsibilities Committee, past coordinator of the Plainville Teacher Mentoring Program and the recipient of the Norfolk County Teachers Honor Award. She was also a member of the Massachusetts Teacher's Association.
Maggie was an avid sewer and enjoyed yard work, gardening and taking care of her home. She also loved to walk the beach and travelled extensively around the country. Above all she loved spending time with her family.
In addition to her husband she is survived by her son, Ryan Deeney of North Attleboro; four siblings and their spouses: Kathleen and husband Ronald Almeida of Norton, Jeanne and husband Dr. Jan Penkala of Cumberland, RI, Francis and wife Debbie Canary of E. Taunton and Marilyn and husband Richard Shepardson of Farmington, NH; her aunt Margaret Canary of Rutland, VT, 15 nieces and nephews, 2 great- nieces and several cousins.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, November 1, 2013 from 4-8 p.m. in the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro.
A funeral will be held from the funeral home on Saturday, November 2 at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass in St. Mary's Church, 14 Park Street, North Attleboro at 10 o'clock. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, North Attleboro.
