HART, Edith Gannaway, 86, passed away February 21, 2013. She was the daughter of John Wallace and Edith Crowell Gannaway, of Lynchburg. Edie is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert Presley Hart Jr; their four children and spouses, Mike and Martha Hart, Jack and Clyde Hart, all of Cologne, Va., Gina and Frank Kane of Great Falls, Va., and Sara and Stewart Sanders of Durham, N.C. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Tris Jones, John Hart and wife, Jennifer, Sam Hart and wife, Sallie, Ragan Hart, Robert Hart, Rebecca Hart, Nathan Sanders, Edie Sanders and Mary Sanders; and great-grandson, William Hart. She is also survived by her only sister, Mary Jane Layne and husband, Charlie of Lynchburg, Va., as well as many nieces and nephews. Edie was a graduate of E.C. Glass High School and Randolph-Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg. She taught high school English and assisted in the family business, R.P. Hart and Son, but most significantly was a homemaker. Edie was active in her community and her church, Shackelfords Chapel, serving as organist, choir director, youth leader, Sunday School teacher and president of the United Methodist Women for many years. Her life will be celebrated at a memorial service at 6 p.m. on March 2, 2013 at Shackelfords Chapel United Methodist Church.
