William B.

Ragland Jr. William B. Ragland Jr., lifelong resident of Lake Providence, Louisiana, died on Sunday, October 21, 2012, at the age of 86.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Melba Henry Ragland; his parents, William B. Ragland Sr. and Cora Lee Cooper Ragland; brother, Thomas E. "Bubby" Ragland Sr.; and sisters, Georgia Ragland Townsend and Virginia "Bea" Ragland.

He is survived by his daughter, Diane Ragland Russell and her husband, John H. Russell, of Charlottesville, Virginia; and his beloved grandchildren, William Ragland Russell of Chicago, Illinois, and Roxanne Louise Russell of New York, New York.

Born in Lake Providence on November 28, 1925, Bill had his college education interrupted by distinguished military service in World War II in the European theater of operations. Following the war, he returned to Tulane University where he completed his undergraduate and law degrees. Bill was a member of the college debate team for four years, and a member and coach of the United States Men's National Debate Team in 1947 and 1948. Following graduation from law school in 1950, he worked briefly in private practice in Monroe, Louisiana, before returning home to Lake Providence where he practiced law until his retirement in 1987.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Jai Cho and the staffs of Morningside Assisted Living of Charlottesville, the Hospice of the Piedmont, and the Cremation Society of Virginia. Services will be private.
