George "Peter" Abbott Jr. Obituary

BLOOMFIELD HILLS — George "Peter" Abbott Jr., 83, of Bloomfield Hills, died Nov. 14, 2007.

Pete was a graduate of University of Michigan College of Engineering and a member of the 1943-1944 football team.

He was a Manufacturing Representative and owned his own business, G.A. Abbott, Inc.

He summered in Elk Rapids, where he enjoyed fishing, reading, being with his family and watching the sunset over Grand Traverse Bay.

Pete was known for his love of college and high school sports. He was a life member of both the UM and MSU Alumni Associations and the University of Michigan Victors Club.

He was the loving husband of Norma for over 58 years; father of Jim (Leslie), Patti (Joe), Bill (Karen) and Dave (Cathy); and grandpa of Chris, Megan, Michael and Emma. He is also survived by sister, Mary (Joe) Savoldi of Traverse City; and many extended family members and life-long friends.

Pete was preceded in death by parents, George and Dorothy Abbott; and sister, Anne Clark.

The family will receive friends today from 1 to 5 p.m. at A.J. Desmond and Sons (Vasu, Rodgers and Connell Chapel), 32515 Woodward Ave. (between 13 and 14 Mile). A funeral service will take place Monday at 11 a.m. at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 1800 W. Maple Road, Birmingham. Visitation begins at the church at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial tributes to his memory to the Elk Rapids District Library, PO Box 337, Elk Rapids, MI 49629.
