Barbara J. Griswold Laederach Obituary

Laederach, Barbara J. Griswold age 79, of Edina, transitioned peacefully on April 11, 2013. Survived by husband of 55+ years, Paul; children, Christy (David) Stolpestad, Wendy (Robert) Syring, and Amy Laederach; grandchildren, Brett & Blake Stolpestad, Connor & Ella Syring, and Elsa & Riley Goldman. Preceded in death by parents, Leslie & Elsie Griswold; brother, Jack Griswold. Barbara graduated from the University of Minnesota with a B.A. in Elementary Education and later a M.A. in Linguistics/ESL. Barbara was a 2nd grade teacher at Lake Harriet Elementary School, taught ESL at Edina High School, and was recognized by the Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce in 1960 with the KTCA Pioneer Television Teacher Award. Barbara was a dedicated member of Delta Gamma Fraternity and has been honored with Delta Gamma's prestigious Rose and Cable Awards and the National Panhellenic Council's Distinguished Service Award. She and her family have been deeply involved at Plymouth Congregational Church for 5 generations. Barbara sang in the Plymouth Church choir, served as Moderator, and was Co-Chair of the Sesquicentennial Celebration and history book committee. She cherished her Swedish immigrant and American colonial ancestry and was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Family meant the world to Barbara. She exuded enthusiasm for all of the interests & activities of her husband, children & grandchildren. Her family shares many wonderful memories of vacations with extended family, Lake Minnetonka cabin life, boating trips, and especially holiday gatherings at her home. Barbara will be fondly remembered for her joyfulness & positivity, radiant smile, warmth & wisdom, grace & graciousness, and for her beautiful spirit whose love and kindness touched the hearts of all who knew her. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, April 20th at Plymouth Congregational Church, 1900 Nicollet Avenue S., Minneapolis. A reception will follow the service. Private interment at Lakewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Plymouth Congregational Church music program, Delta Gamma Foundation or the American Swedish Institute.
