Barbara Marie (Anderson) Jepson Obituary

Jepson, Barbara Marie (Anderson) age 90, of Edina, Minnesota, passed away on November 17, 2013, in Bloomington, Indiana, with her family at her side. Barbara was born to Oscar and Mildred (Westman) Anderson on April 9, 1923, in Swedish Hospital, Minneapolis, MN. Barbara grew up as an only child, but had multiple cousins, with whom she remained close throughout her life. Other than the last 18 months of her life, and several years during grade school, she lived in Minneapolis. She graduated from Washburn high school in 1941, then in 1946 earned a Bachelor's of Sciences in Nursing from the University of Minnesota School of Nursing, as well as a Bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota College of Education. She worked as a nurse at Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis from approximately 1946-1954, becoming Director of Nursing Education during that time. Barbara met the love of her life, L. Dudley Jepson, while serving as bridesmaid at her cousin's wedding. They were married in 1954, and had their first child in 1955, a daughter, Karen Ann. Their second child, Nancy Barbara, was born three years later. Following Karen's birth, Barbara retired from nursing and began a busy life as a homemaker, volunteer and leader in support of numerous school, community and church programs. She and Dudley were early members of Normandale Lutheran Church, in Edina, Minnesota, where Barbara remained active until her move to Bloomington, Indiana in 2012. From afar, she continued her support of the church and her work with Normandale's prayer shawl mission, which brought peace and comfort to those in need of support. In her 89th year, she moved from her Minnesota home to Bloomington, Indiana to be closer to family. She embraced this change, rejoicing in the new friends she easily made. Until the end of her life, Barbara made it her business to remain connected to family, friends, and community, and to always have something interesting to "bring to the table", either by way of food or opinion. Those she touched knew she was truly one of a kind. Barbara is survived by two daughters Karen Jepson-Innes of Bloomington, IN and Nancy Aberg of Minnetonka, MN; and by grandchildren Corinne and Peter Innes of Bloomington, IN. She is also survived by cousins, Peggy Anderson of North Oaks, MN, Karen Boberg of Excelsior, MN, Alice Johnson of Stevens Point, WI, Patty Jean McGuire of Orange, CA and Luther Michael Westman of Aiken, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband, L.Dudley Jepson, in 2001. A celebration of Barbara's life will be held on Friday, December 6, 2:00 pm, at Normandale Lutheran Church, 6100 Normandale Road, Edina MN, with private interment at Lakewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Community Emergency Services or Normandale Lutheran Church. Allen Funeral Home handling arrangements. Condolences: www.allenfuneralhome.org
