Chuck's Mother's Larpenteur family and Henry Sibley founded St. Paul, Minnesota. Cora Larpenteur Murphy's Great grandfather, Louis August Larpenteur, built the first frame house and the first brick store. He also built and operated the first post office. His wooden case with 16 pigeon-holes is preserved by the Minnesota Historical Society. Larpenteur Avenue is named after Chuck's family. Chuck, a World War II veteran, attended Washburn High School where he was named All-City in Basketball. Upon returning from the war, he worked for Gopher Equipment. He owned and operated Hayden-Murphy Equipment Company. He sold this company in 1980 to American Hoist and Derrick. Chuck was a member of The Church of St. Patrick, The Gibraltar Club, Knights of Columbus, the Downtown YMCA, University of Minnesota Gopher Club, Edina Country Club where he was a member for 54 years and Camelback Country Club in Scottsdale, AZ, and many philanthropic organizations in the Twin Cities. He fondly remembered his childhood jobs including his 25 cents per hour job at the Piggly Wiggly, and caddying at Minikahda Country Club, carrying two bags, for fifty cents. Chuck loved playing golf. On his eighty-sixth Birthday he shot 86! And on his 90th birthday Chuck golfed with his children and had a "hole in one." Chuck passed on his love of golf to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren! Chuck died peacefully. He spent his last days surrounded by his loving family and enjoying life as he always did, cheering on the Timberwolves by calling each player by name and viewing the Arnold Palmer Golf Tournament. At 96 years young Chuck was energetic and active. On Palm Sunday God welcomed him home. This is fitting because Chuck lived a faith filled life as a devout Catholic, which was reflected in his devotion and his enduring love for his family and friends. We will miss his warm smile, his kind heart and gracious soul. Mass of Christian Burial Monday 11:30 AM, Church of St. Patrick, 6820 St. Patrick's Lane, Edina. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation one hour prior to Mass at church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Church of St. Patrick or the Special Olympics of Minnesota Area 11. www.GILLBROTHERS.com Minneapolis Chapel 612-861-6088
