Smith, Edward "Snuphy" age 77, of Brooklyn Park, passed peacefully from this life on Tuesday, October 22. His children had the privilege of caring for him during his illness, allowing him to spend his final days at home. A lifelong Minnesota resident, Ed studied Machine Shop at Vocational High School in Minneapolis (class of 1954). He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1959. He worked for a number of companies including PAKO, Scott-Atwater, Marquette Inc., Erickson Corporation, and Phillips-Temro until his retirement at age 62. Ed loved cars and was known for his yellow '47 Chev Sedan Delivery and '56 Olds Super 88. A member of the Bumper Buddies Car Club in the early 1950's, Ed was a founding member of the Gopher State Timing Association in 1954. He held the offices of Secretary and Treasurer for many years and was an active member of GSTA until his death. He was also a member of the Cogs Car Club, MSRA, NSRA, the Sedan Delivery Association, the Oldsmobile Club, and the Society of Automotive Engineers. The love of his life, his wife Suellen, preceded him in death in 2006. He is survived by his children Dave (Erin), Wendy (Jack) Orth, and Cheryl; grandchildren Charlie, Alison, Wyatt, Cheyenne, Sierra and Nolan; many relatives and friends; and Smudge, TDCFH. A memorial reception will be held Saturday, November 2, 11 AM - 3 PM at Church of the Open Door, 9060 Zanzibar Ln N, Maple Grove, MN, 55311. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the North Memorial Foundation, 3300 Oakdale Ave, Robbinsdale, MN 55422 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
