Hodge, James C., Sr. age 89, of Minneapolis, passed peacefully to his eternal reward April 22, 2013. Preceded in death by parents and a sister, James retired as a supervising social worker after 33 years with Hennepin County. He founded First Communion Christian Church in Minneapolis in 1953 and pastored it for more than 55 years. A WWII veteran, he graduated from the University of Minnesota and attended Augsburg College and Bethel Seminary. He was a pioneer in many arenas, from integration to style of ministry. James was a loving husband, wonderful father and steadfast preacher of the gospel. His unwavering faith, quiet strength, good humor and gracious spirit will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Maryann; daughters, Laura (Michael) Randolph, Julianne Hayes and Sharon Hodge; sons, James, Jr. (Karen), Thomas and Richard Hodge; grandchildren, John and Davina Mooney, Andrew Randolph, Jessica Bias, Stephani and Ashli Hodge, Marcus, Nicole and Anthony Hayes, Nicholas, Sarah and Serena Hodge; six great-grandchildren; cousin, Ed (Naomi) Walker; many other relatives, friends and parishioners. Visitation Friday, May 3, 6-8 p.m. at First Memorial Funeral Chapel, 4343 Nicollet Ave. So., Mpls. Funeral service Saturday, May 4, noon at Lakewood Memorial Chapel, 3600 Hennepin Ave. So., Mpls., with visitation one half hour prior to service. Interment Lakewood Cemetery.
