Nancy I. English M.D. Obituary

Nancy I. English MD, 57, of Duluth, died unexpectedly of natural causes on Aug. 8, 2008. Nancy was a mother, a wife, a daughter, a sister, a doctor, a friend, and a mentor. She was born May 5, 1951 in Minneapolis, to William Blakeley English and Kathryn (Dahl) English. She held a Bachelor Degree in Sociology from Augsburg College, a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Minnesota and a Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Minnesota. She married Tom Crook on Feb. 28, 1976 at Woodlake Lutheran Church. While studying for her Master's, she worked at Ebenezer Nursing Home where she started programs in public health, short-term living, chemical dependency, and adult protection. In 1978, she moved to Moorhead where she taught at Concordia College, worked at Fairmont, and Lutheran Hospitals and Homes. In Moorhead, she and Tom had two daughters, Hilary and Emily. She loved learning and had a passion for helping others. At 37 she acted on this passion by returning to school in Duluth to become a family physician. Though Medical School required her to move to the cities for a period of time, she always made time to be at every school function, recital, and sport event with her children and husband. In 1992, she began her residency at the Family Practice Clinic in Duluth and in 1995 she joined P.S. Rudie & Associates. She had currently served as the Chief of Staff at St. Luke's Hospital. She currently served on the Medical Staff Executive Committee at St. Marys Medical Center. She loved her work and absolutely loved helping people. Nancy was extremely talented, she loved to run marathons, sew, sing, cook, volunteer, and so much more. In spite of this, she was always humble. She loved being with her husband and best friend, Tom Crook. With Tom, she loved to vacation, ski, host parties, and be with their daughters. Her mother, Kay English, preceded her in death. Nancy is survived by her husband of 32 years, Tom Crook; daughters, Hilary English Crook (Jacob Seljan) of Minnetonka, and Emily Kathryn Crook (friend, DJ Hamm) of St. Louis Park; brother, Blakeley English (Cheryl) of Fargo; father, Blake English (Eunice) of Edina; brothers-in-law, Bob Crook (Jackie) of Hopkins and Steve Crook of Minneapolis; mother-in-law, Dorothy Crook of Richfield; nieces, Kiley English and Sarah Crook; nephews, Erik Crook and Corey English and countless other family and friends. She was adored by all and will be missed by all. FUNERAL SERVICE:11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008 in First Lutheran Church, 1100 E Superior St, Duluth.
