Sturges, Robert Leon MD Age 89, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 30 in the presence of family. Preceded in death by Audrey, his loving wife of 65 years, and wonderful daughter, Jennifer Fisk. Bob is survived by fortunate and devoted family, daughters, Peg Hoff (Dennis) and Deborah Howell (Bill); son-in-law, Jim Fisk; sister, Jeanne Brandt (Henry); grandchildren, Andy (Meghan) and Chris Gothro; Rob, Allie and Tommy Fisk; and Blake Sewell-Howell. Bob graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School and in 1949 joined the Fairview Hospital staff and established his first medical partnership. From 1951-53 Bob served in the US Army at Tripler Army Hospital in Honolulu, returning home to establish private practice at the Richfield Medical Group. Bob served as Chief of Staff of both Fairview Hospital and Fairview Southdale Hospital and was on the Board of Directors of the Emergency Physicians Professional Association. Bob was a family practice physician with a talent for treating his patients with sound medicine, compassion, kindness and more than just a touch of humor. He was greatly loved and admired. While his medical practice was important, even more significant in Bob's life were family, friends, church choir, travel and nature. He knew the history of every tree and bush at his home and at the family cabin in Hayward, which he loved dearly. Bob loved well, lived well, and has left a legacy in our hearts that will survive the ages. Our gratitude to the wonderful staff at Friendship Village for their loving care. Memorial Service Saturday, Dec. 7th at 2 PM at Colonial Church of Edina, 6200 Colonial Way, Edina. Reception to follow. Memorials preferred to Colonial Church of Edina, Friendship Village of Bloomington, or The Salvation Army. www.Washburn-McReavy.com
