Marpe, Robert 82, Harrisburg, PA and formerly of St. Paul, MN, passed away June 20, 2013 following a valiant battle with Alzheimer's. Born October 29, 1930 in St. Paul, he was the son of the late Eugene E. Marpe and Elva D. Swenson Marpe; was the stepson of the late Mildred E. Marpe and was also preceded in death by 3 sisters, Karen, Dolores and Myrna; and one brother, Dale. He graduated from Wilson High School and received his bachelor's degree from University of Minnesota Duluth. He was a Staff Sergeant in the Air Force and retired at age 48 from the Department of Agriculture. He had been a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Anoka; was a former member of the Anoka Masonic Lodge 30, F&AM and the Anoka American Legion; enjoyed golfing, traveling and playing cards with his wife and going to the horse races and casinos in Canada. His ability to retire so young stemmed from his avid investing in the stock markets. His greatest joy, however, came from his role as a loving husband and provider, and being an "old-fashioned" father to his four daughters. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Norma (Mordal) Marpe, Harrisburg, PA; 4 daughters: Kathryn (and husband, Stephen) Farrier, Ham Lake, MN, Barbara (and husband, Mark) Loomis, Harrisburg, Nancy Melson (and Brad Lindgren), Ramsey, MN, and Joyce (and husband, William) Murrey, Las Vegas, NV; and was blessed with 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Also mourning his passing is his caregiver, Tara, to whom the family expresses their appreciation for the loving care given to Bob and his whole family during his last years. A memorial service will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, August 8, 2013 in Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Connie Tiede officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Contributions in Bob's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Research Center, 640 Jackson St., St. Paul, MN. 55101-2595. Kimmel Funeral Home, Harrisburg, PA is handling arrangements.
