Stephen Anthony Stoll Obituary

Stoll, Stephen Anthony age 70, of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, passed away of natural causes about May 13, 2013. Born in Minneapolis on February 6, 1943, son of Eva B. Coulter (nee Swenson, Stoll) and Alfred Anthony Stoll of Pierz, Minnesota, he graduated from Page School and then Washburn High School in 1961 as Valedictorian and co-editor of The Washburn Grist. He headed east to attend Harvard College, where he was a member of the fencing team and a distinguished student. A Minnesotan at heart, he finished his B.S. degree at the University of Minnesota circa 1968. He obtained his license as a pilot and worked for many years at the Federal Aviation Administration where he was an En Route Flight Advisory Service Specialist at the Princeton Automated Flight Service Station. He was also a flight instructor, ground instructor and active pilot. An avid astronomer and outdoorsman, he led colleagues on what they termed the "Iron Man" expedition, an annual canoe trip he planned on area rivers. In 1992, he married Janet Louise Brewer, whom he lovingly assisted in her battle against breast cancer, which claimed her life in 2000. He was formerly married to the late Andre L. Floberg. He is predeceased by his parents, and sister, Antonia Marie (Stoll) Orfield. Survived by nieces, Amy Orfield Jacques and husband Ralph of Oakwood, GA, Sonia Marie Orfield and husband Adam Shah of Washington, D.C., and Rosanna Antonia Cavanagh and husband Joseph of Providence, RI, along with three grandnephews and two grandnieces, who remember his kindness fondly. His memorial service will be held at Willwerscheid Funeral Home, 1167 Grand Avenue, St.Paul, MN on Saturday, July 20th at 10:00 AM a reception to follow on site. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of the following organizations to which Steve was a loyal benefactor: The Emergency Foodshelf Network, The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, Minnesota Public Radio, The Courage Center (Stephen Stoll and Janet Brewer Fund) and Washburn High School Foundation.
