Lyn Benson Obituary

She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin and her Masters Degree in Social Work from VCU. Lyn gave unselfishly of herself and touched many lives in her work with the Charlottesville Department of Social Services and Virginia Department of Social Services where she worked for 12 years. Many friends were made across the country as Lyn continued to serve others as the owner and operator of Bensonhouse Lodging Services for 19 years. Her service continued with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Virginia as an External Event Manager seeking to expand awareness of this non-profit foundation. Lyn was a visionary who had many interests that included aquaculture, agriculture and flower and crop production. She was a Master Gardener and volunteered at Horticulture Therapy, McGuire Veterans Hospital and with 4-H programs. She was also an animal lover and a faithful supporter of animal welfare, especially involving cats. A devoted member of Corinth Baptist Church, Lyn, will be remembered for her kind, patient ways and willingness to help others. She is survived by life partner, John Edwin Richardson; brothers and sister-in-law, Bruce and Jackie Howard of Leawood, Kan.; sister, Natalle Howard of Mission, Kan.; aunt, Syball Voth of Richmond, Va.; and cousins, Greg, Pam and Jo Voth all formerly of Richmond, Va. A Memorial Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Corinth Baptist Church, 11650 New Kent Hwy., New Kent, Va. 23124. A time of visitation will follow the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Corinth Baptist Church or to New Kent County Animal Control. Gratitude is expressed to members of Corinth Baptist Church and Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center for the support and love given during this time. Tributes may be posted at
