MANCHESTER - Philip Beland Jr., 69, passed away on July 16th, 2013, after a lengthy illness in his home surrounded by family and friends.
Mr. Beland was born on June 4th, 1944 in Derry, N.H., the son of the late Philip Beland Sr. and Lillian (Fontaine) Beland.
Mr. Beland graduated from Pinkerton Academy in 1962 and continued his education by attending the University of New Hampshire.
He graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1966 with a B.A. in Biology.
Mr. Beland studied environmental engineering at Northeastern University in Boston, MA.
He was a United States Army veteran, attaining the rank of Captain in the Medical Service Corp while actively serving in Korea.
Mr. Beland owned Beland Water Testing Lab and Land Planning, specializing in septic system design and evaluation as well as well water analysis.
Mr. Beland was also a founding member of the Granite State Designers and Installers Association and served with that organization in several capacities.
Mr. Beland was a parishioner of Saint Raphael Parish and also was a member of the choir for many years where he became close friends with members of the group.
Members of his family include his loving wife of 46 years, Linda (Morganstern) Beland, his son Eric and his wife Selene, his son Kevin and his wife Shannon, his daughter Jennifer Beland-Mosher and her husband Benjamin, grandchildren Stephanie, Nicholas, Kaya, Alec and Claire, a sister Phyllis Orrey of Florida, nephew Christopher Orrey and his wife Christine, niece Lisa (Orrey) Dyer and her husband Michael, niece Sharon Orrey, nephew Bryan Morganstern and many close and dear friends he either met recently or had known most of his life.
Calling hours will be on Thursday, July 18th, 2013, from 4 to 7pm at Durning, Bykowski and Young Funeral home, 285 Manchester St, corner of Beech St. Manchester, N.H.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 19th at 9 am at Saint Raphael Parish, 103 Walker St.
Burial with military honors will follow at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, N.H.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the Saint Raphael Food Pantry, 103 Walker Street, Manchester, N.H. 03102.
