WILLIAM AYERS Obituary


AYERS, William Herbert Jr., 82, of Ashland, passed away from Multiple System Atrophy (Shy-Drager) on January 20, 2013. Bill Jr. was born on May 23, 1930 in Bedford, Va., and was preceded in death by his parents, William H. Sr. and Lilly B. Ayers; and his sister, Sue Dick. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Gladys Loving Ayers; his sons and daughters-in-law, William H. III and Mechelle Ayers, David M. and Vicky Ayers, Edward R. and Robin Ayers, Robert K. and Denise Ayers, John B. and Sis Ayers; nine grandchildren, Chris, Ashlee, Will, Spencer (wife, Ashley), Megan, Randy, Logan, Jenn and Kris; two great-grandchildren, Caleb and Adam; brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Jan Ayers; sister, Joanne Graham; and sister and brother-in-law, Patsy and Don Dooley; and sister, Angie Patterson. After graduating high school, he served in the United States Navy as an Aviation Mechanic from 1948 until his honorable discharge in 1952. He then joined the Virginia State Police and served until he retired a Master Trooper in 1992. The memorial service will be held on January 26, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, 201 Henry St., Ashland, Va. 23005. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church.
