Gordon Paul Bormann Obituary


Gordon Paul Bormann Gordon Paul Bormann, 88, passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2012.

Mr. Bormann was born in Chicago, Illinois, on February 26, 1924, the son of Edward and Emma Bormann.

He graduated from Downers Grove North High School in 1942. He was a stone and brick mason by trade, a longtime member of the Bricklayers Union local #74 and owned a construction company in Chicago. In the late 60's while working at the Pepperidge Farm plant in Downers Grove Illinois he earned an engineering degree in baking at the National Institute of baking in Chicago. In the early 70's, he took a management position at the Golden Hearth Baking Company in Chicago. He moved to Virginia in 1972, where he was employed by Masanutten development and was instrumental in developing the ski area. He then was employed by Wintergreen Development for 16 years where he was a construction superintendent overseeing the construction of many buildings within the resort.

Mr. Bormann was a World War II veteran and a survivor of the Normandy D Day landing. He was a past member of the VFW as well as the local Elks lodge 2270 and past president of the Chicago Chapter of the German Philatelic Society.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Helen Joan Bormann; a brother, Edward "Buddy" Bormann; and a sister, Gloria Wilken.

He is survived by the following family members, a son, John Bormann and his wife, Sylvia, of Clearwater, Forida; son, David Bormann and his wife, Ellen, of Mooresville, North Carolina, son, Gordon R. Bormann and his wife, Kim, of Fishersville, Virginia; six grandchildren, Lauren Carruthers, Reece Bormann, Catherine Bormann, Christina Scagnelli, Amie Bormann and Fallon Bormann, and one great-granddaughter, Graysen Carruthers. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, November 17, 2012, at McDow Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Friday, November 16, 2012, at the funeral home.
