Virginia S. Hope Hicks Virginia S. Hope Hicks, 76, of Charlottesville, passed away at her residence on Friday, July 5, 2013. Born on December 13, 1936 in Charlottesville, she was the daughter of the late Cecil D. and Mazie Crawford Shifflett. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Louis Thomas Hope and Dewey Lee Hicks; a special friend, Tommy Minter; eight siblings, Shirley Elizabeth Shifflett, Carol Ruth Shifflett, Cecil Dewey Shifflett Jr., Barbara Jean Shifflett, Dewey Wayne Shifflett, Ronald Edward Shifflett, Helen Louise Forsberg, and Hazel Frances Ward; and a great- granddaughter, Hannah Nicole Staton. Virginia was a lifelong resident of Charlottesville, owning and operating the beloved By-Pass Market and after its closing, she worked as a greeter for Sam's Club. She loved her family, friends, babies, country music, and dancing. A member of the VFW Auxiliary, she was also a lifetime member of the Elks and Women of the Moose. She is survived by her children, Vicki S. Snow and her husband, Roger, Cecilia H. Courtney and her husband, Wayne, and James L. Hope and his wife, Carolyn; stepchildren, Wanda Sharp and her husband, Ken, and Peggy Johnson and her husband, Steven; grandchildren, Blanche L. Staton and her companion, William Douglas, Roger L. "Boo-Boo" Snow Jr., Thomas W. Courtney and Causey T. Hope; step grandchildren, Michelle Farmer, Michael Stover, Tonya Lamb, Orin Sharp, and Nora Sharp; great-grandchildren, Jesse L. Snow, Tyler A. Staton, and Aaron L. Bryant; her sisters, Marie L. Collier of Barboursville and Charlotte A. Gibson of Charlottesville; and many beloved nieces and nephews. The family expresses a special thank you to Hope Patterson for her loving care and the Hospice of the Piedmont for their support. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 9, 2013, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Hill and Wood Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013, in the Hill and Wood Chapel with the Reverend Bob Henry officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.
