DAVID LEE JACKSON Obituary


David Lee Jackson FLORENCE - Graveside service for Mr. David Lee Jackson will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2013 at the Florence National Cemetery with full military honors. He died on Saturday, June 8, 2013 in the Dorn VA Hospital, Columbia, SC after an illness. David was born May 5, 1951 in Timmonsville, SC to Herbert C., Sr. and the late Calestine Bennett Jackson Edge. He grew up in his grandparents' home, James "Sap" and Mary L. Bennett. He was educated in the public schools of Florence County and attended Southeastern Community College where he received an Associate degree. He was a disabled veteran who served his country honorably in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. His profession was that of a truck driver and a truck driver instructor for 20 years. Survivors are: his beloved wife, Helen McKay Jackson; daughters, Deidra L. Jackson of Fayetteville, NC; India J. Gurley (Adrian), Marvetta Harkess and Eiketra Taylor, all of Florence, SC; sons, Jerome Dargan of Florence, SC; Roderick Godfrey of Atlanta, GA and Darin Ellerbe of Columbia, SC; 23 grandchildren; one great grandchild; father, Herbert C. Jackson, Sr.; sisters, Patricia Brown (Carl) of Paterson, NJ; Pamela Jackson of Florence, SC; Terry D. Jackson (Lewis) of Harrisburg, PA and Lisa Pelote of Myrtle Beach, SC; brothers, Herbert C. Jackson (Annette) of Florence, SC; and Rev. Henry "Red" Dixon of Timmonsville, SC; aunts, Dorothy McElveen of Timmonsville, SC; Ethel Singletary and Hattie Jackson, both of Queens, NY and Clara J. Scott of Sacramento, CA; in-laws, Martha Davis, Charles McKay and James (Ellen) McKay, all of Florence, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
