CHILDRESS, Lonnie Jr., 83, of Crewe, Virginia, departed from this world on December 27, 2012. He was born August 29, 1929 in Cincinatti, Ohio and became a much decorated veteran of both the Army and Air Force. He served his country proudly for over 25 years actively participating in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, retiring as Master Sgt. He went on to raise Charolais cows, making a profitable cattle farm. he also enjoyed breeding and raising his prized Fox Hounds. He was preceded in death by his father, Lonnie Childress Sr.; and his mother, Eula Bell Brooks Childress, of Tazwell, Virginia. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Amey Childress. He is also survived by his five children, son, Michael (Kathy) Childress, Daughter, Han (Kenneth) McNamee; son, Lonnie Childress III, son, Wayne (Raina) Childress, and daughter, Robin (James) Buchanan. He was the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was a strong man, full of opinions and not afraid to share them. He loved to talk, he loved his family, he loved his coffee, and he loved his country, not necessarily in that order. He will be sorely missed by many. Viewing by friends will be 6 to 8 p.m. tuesday, January 1, 2013 at Jennings-McMillian funeral Home in Crewe. Services and interment will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia.
