Obituary of Robin Aileen Merritt Blakeney, Age 40, of Waldorf, Maryland.

On Monday, October 17th, 2005 God saw that he needed another beautiful flower for his garden so he reached down and chose our beloved Robin. Robin Aileen Merritt Blakeney was the youngest daughter of Robert & Helen Merritt.

She entered this world July 8, 1965. Robin showed an early interest in church by joining the youth choir and the junior usher board. She was reared in a christian home where the precepts and examples of wholesome christian living were taught. As a little girl, she was friendly, sensitive and loving to everyone. She was endowed by God with the special gift of friendliness and hospitality.

Robin attended the public schools of Charles County, Maryland. She graduated from McDonough High School. While in high school she developed several very close friendships. After high school, Robin attended Virginia State University where she received a degree in Marketing. During her years at VSU she established many cherished friendships including special relationships with Shelly and Stephanie.

Robin was blessed with a warm and inviting personality. She touched everyone she came into contact with in a special way. She loved to travel and share special moments with family and friends. She especially enjoyed family reunions, Christmas dinners and annual trips to the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

Robin became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority while in college. She remained faithful to her sorority and sisters throughout her adult life. She could be found helping out in one project or the next to benefit her organization. She was a active member of Nu Zeta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority until her passing.

While in college Robin met Willie Blakeney. She knew at once that this was the man for her. They were married on March 7, 1992 in LaPlata, Md.. They established a home in Waldorf, Maryland. Their home was often the meeting place for many special occasions and was always opened to family and friends.

Robin begin her career with the government in the Department of the Navy in 1987. Her current position was with the Naval Sea Systems Command as a Program Analyst for PMS 425. She was very proud of the work she was involved in. She had a group of wonderful co-workers who will truly miss her wonderful smile and presence in the office.

Robin was a active member of Zion Baptist Church. She was very proud of her membership in the Imani Praise Dancers. She contributed to the programs and dance routines.

She is survived by her husband Willie; her parents, Helen and Robert Merritt; her sister Natalie Hart; sisters-in-law Bonnie Wilson and Susan Robinson; brothers-in-law Sylvester Blakeney; Tracy Thompson, Dan and James Robinson; aunt Juanita Johnson; a host of nieces and nephews including two she helped raise, Jessyca Hart and Lamont Robinson, and other relatives and close friends.

Viewing and Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2005 at Zion Baptist Church, 8105 Annapolis Woods Road, Welcome, Maryland. Viewing 9:00 am; Funeral Services 11:00 am. Interment will be in Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, Maryland. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the scholarship fund in Robin Blakeney’s name to Nu Zeta Omega (AKA Sorority) P.O. Box 308, Waldorf, Maryland 20604.
