OWNBY, Gordon L., 86, of Richmond, Va., departed this life on October 7, 2012 to be with his Heavenly Father. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Ruth Ownby; three sons, Lee, Dean and Steve: seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Mildred Craddock; and two brothers, Clyde and John Ownby, both of Cumberland County. Mr. Ownby served many years as a deacon, choir member, and teacher at Ridge Baptist Church. He served for two years in the Navy during World War II. He retired from the Virginia Department of Rehabilitative Services in 1989 with 38 years of state service. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 9, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road. A service will take place

2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 10, at Ridge Baptist Church, 1515 Eastridge Road, Richmond, Va. 23229. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Building Fund at Ridge Baptist Church, 1515 Eastridge Road, Richmond, Va. 23229.
