Devine, J. Peter Age 97, of St. Paul and Naples, FL, died April 28, 2013. J. Peter Devine was born in St. Paul, graduated from Cretin High School and St. Thomas College. After post-graduate medical work at Marquette University, he worked for DuPont, a primary WWII contractor, involved in the Manhattan Project. He served as a Lieutenant (j.g.) in the U.S. Navy on the USS Essex in the South Pacific Campaign. After WWII, he became the third generation of his family to enter into the insurance business. He established the Devine Agency and represented among other companies, the Transamerica Occidental Life Insurance Co. as their St. Paul General Agent for over 55 years. During his lifetime, he was recognized with almost every significant life and health insurance achievement award. Peter was a dedicated, faithful, visionary volunteer leader serving public education, career education and higher education including notable significant achievements within the Minnesota Higher Education Coordinating Commission; influential efforts on behalf of the Northern Star Council of the Boy Scouts of America; tirelessly serving: St. Paul Chamber of Commerce; Prime Minister of the 1956 St. Paul Winter Carnival; 15 Grand Post of the American Legion; St. Paul Kiwanis Club and Board officer of the Salvation Army. Peter's delight was boating aboard "Eight Bells" with family and friends for over 25 years on the St. Croix River. His endeavors touched the lives of many and his lasting legacies will always be with us. The leadership and service would not have been possible without the supporting efforts of his wife of 59 years, Janet, who preceded him in death five years ago. Peter is survived by his six children: Nancy; Tom (Pam): Jake, Kenny and Andy; Debbie Belfry: Dan (Erica) and Sara; Dick (Sandra): Ryan and Luke; Bob: Erin, Peter and Devin; and Charlie (Michelle): Roma, Celeste and Masha; and brother Donald Devine.
