James JOHNS Obituary

JOHNS, James "Jimmy," 89, of Richmond, Va., passed away peacefully Saturday, February 2, 2013. Jimmy was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Jennie; his son, Dennis P. Johns and wife, Christina; and his daughter, Kathy Liapis; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and several loving nieces and nephews. He was especially grateful for the love and kindness that was shown by his niece, Georgia Kiraly. He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters. He was considered a true gentleman and pillar of the cathedral community, serving on the parish council and as a trustee of the church. He loved his church unselfishly, being honored as the oldest altar boy to serve. He was a member of the Order of Ahepa for over 50 years. He also served in the U.S. Army during WWII. The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bliley's-Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where a Trisagion Prayer Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Constantine & Helens Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Burial will be at Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, P.O. Box 4527, New York, N.Y. 10163
