NATHANIEL COVINGTON Obituary


COVINGTON, Nathaniel "Nat" Wilson Jr., age 88, died Saturday, March 30, 2013. Born and raised in Halifax County, Va., he was preceded in death by his parents, Nathaniel W. Covington Sr. and Mary Sibley Covington; and his siblings, Thomas Kent Covington and Virginia C. Duke. He is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Arnice Nichols Covington; and his beloved children, Dr. Kathryn C. Black of Cumming, Ga. and Nathaniel Kent Covington of New York City, N.Y. As a 1st Lieutenant in the Army Air Force during WWII, Nat served his country proudly as a B-24 Navigator in the 55th Weather Reconnaissance Squadron on Okinawa and Guam. Returning home, he received a BS degree from Va. Tech in 1947 and an MSW from Florida State in 1950. He joined the FBI as an agent in 1951 and, thereafter, began his long career in insurance and financial planning. As a former member of River Road Presbyterian Church, he served as a Deacon and Elder and was active in Christian Education as a Sunday School teacher and Superintendent. Nat was an avid tennis player and member of Willow Oaks Country Club for more than 50 years. His twice-weekly tennis games lasted into his 85th year. Throughout his life he enjoyed sharing his vivid recollections of the people and events that shaped his experiences. A graveside service will be held for the family at Pleasant Grove Christian Church in Halifax.
