Peter P. "Pete" Belak Obituary

Peter P. "Pete" Belak, age 89, of Council Bluffs, passed away February 24, 2013, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital.

Pete was born April 23, 1923, in Gregory, S.D., to the late Joseph and Frances (Chvala) Belak. He graduated Gregory High School in 1941 and served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII, receiving a Purple Heart. Pete married Betty Jean Darnell in 1950 and went to work for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail sorter. He was a member of the Lighthouse Temple and witnessed at MOHMS Place.

In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Belak in 1991; daughter, Pam Nielsen in 1986; 2 sisters and 5 brothers.

Pete is survived by his daughters, Pam Pester, Penny Belak, both of Council Bluffs; 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; brothers, Joey Belak, of Gregory, John (Janice) Belak; sisters, Anna House, both of Fremont, Neb., Susan Connot, of Gregory; many nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family, Thursday, 6 to 8 p.m., at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Funeral service, Friday, 11 a.m., at the funeral home. Interment Cedar Lawn Cemetery. The family will direct memorials.
