Warren Bushey Obituary


Warren A. Bushey Sr. Warren A. Bushey Sr., longtime businessman and resident of Charlottesville, passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2013, at The Village at Gordon House in Gordonsville, where he was a resident for the past eight years. Warren was born on January 21, 1921, in Neabsco/Woodbridge, Virginia. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Catherine; two sons, Donald and his wife, Dianne, of Fairfax, and Art and his wife, Becky, of Keswick; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. At the age of five, Warren moved from Virginia, to Indian head, Maryland, with his five siblings. Upon graduating college in 1939, Warren went to work for the Ford Motor Company in Washington, D.C. In 1942, he enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country during World War II. After returning home from the Navy, Warren rejoined Ford Motor Company where he worked for 22 years. Warren moved to Charlottesville, in 1963, where he became the local Ford Dealer for 40 years until his retirement in 2004. Warren was very active in his community including serving as a lifetime member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board in Charlottesville. His first priority was his family, second his work and third his hobbies of beagling and baseball. Warren enjoyed raising and training purebred Beagles. He founded the Northern Virginia Beagle Club in Aldie, Virginia. He served as President and Secretary for 20 years. Over a period of 50 years, Warren finished 17 of his Beagle dogs as Field Champions. Warren loved baseball and softball. His favorite baseball team was the Boston Red Sox. As a young man, Warren played in softball leagues in the Northern Virginia, and Washington, D.C. areas. In later years he was involved in Little League and Babe Ruth Leagues in Vienna, Virginia, where he served as President. He also helped manage and coach teams where his two sons played. The Bushey family wishes to thank Tom May, Administrator; Barbara Miller, Director of Residence Care; and all of the staff at The Village at Gordon House. The staff loved him, gave him excellent care, and treated his family with love and respect. Funeral services will be held at the Mount View Baptist Church with Pastor John Green officiating, on Tuesday, September 10, 2013, at 2 p.m., where Warren was a member. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Following the services, a reception will be held at The Village at Gordon House, 501 North Main Street, Gordonsville, Virginia. Burial services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, September 12, 2013, at the Pohick Episcopal Church, 9301 Richmond Highway, Lorton, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Alzheimer's Unit, Warren's House, c/o The Village at Gordon House, 501 North Main Street, Gordonsville, VA 22942.
