Carrie Anderson Obituary

Carrie Ann Anderson Was taken from us suddenly on June 10, 2008 in San Jose, California. Born April 8, 1958 in Boston to Paul and Patricia Anderson, She made many lifelong friends while excelling at Girls Latin High School and Boston University where she won a Trustee scholarship and graduated Magna Cum Laude. Carrie, a lifelong Red Sox fan, began her career in magazine publishing at Yankee magazine before joining the advertising and artist relations department at Kurzweil Music Systems. At 30, she decided on a whim to accompany a friend relocating to Menlo Park, California. Planning to stay only six months, she received a job offer from eventual friend and mentor Peter Hirschfeld at Electronic Musician in Emeryville. Carrie accepted and soon moved to San Francisco where she later bought her first home near Fisherman's Wharf. Carrie's first conversation with her eventual husband was an argument she ended by changing the subject to food and wine, a passion they would share before and after marrying, appropriately enough, inside Byington Winery during a freak Los Gatos mountains snowstorm in April, 1999. The couple soon fell in love with Big Trees Village in the central Sierras and bought a cabin there that same year. After nine years at "EM" ended in disillusionment over several corporate buy-outs, Carrie declined promotion to Executive Publisher and soon resigned. Several publishing jobs with hellish commutes throughout the Bay Area followed until mutual friend Denny Mayer suggested tech entrepreneur Steve Kirsch hire her as his family's Estate Manager in 2005. Carrie 's affection for the family and stellar organizing skills made her an indispensible part of the Kirsch household and her four-day week afforded many chances to enjoy her favorite place on earth, her "tree house" in Big Trees. Carrie is survived by sister Pam Ketterer, brothers Mark and Brian Anderson, parents Paul and Pat Anderson, husband David Sweet, stepdaughters Courtney and Ashley Sweet whom Carrie loved as her own, and the countless friends she touched with her exceptional thoughtfulness, creative talent, generosity, and love of life. A memorial service will be held Tuesday June 24, 3 PM, at Saratoga Federated Church, 20390 Park Place, Saratoga, California. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Boston University.

I just learned of Carrie's passing, a few months after the fact. This is shocking and very sad news. I worked with Carrie at Electronic Musician. She was an energetic and fun coworker, and I enjoyed our many conversations while getting our coffee in the morning. My sincerest sympathies to her families and close friends. They must still be reeling. She will be missed enormously.

Debby and I were both so sad to recently hear this news. Carrie was a mentor and friend to both of us during various times in our music industry publishing careers in the Bay Area. We always assumed we'd see Carrie at some function or another, get one of those incredible Carrie hugs, and catch up on all things big and small. Solve some of the worlds problems over a glass of wine. We both owe Carrie a debt of gratitude for her help along our way, which she always gave so selflessly. Our hearts go out to Carrie's husband, family and friends. We were lucky to call Carrie a friend, she was one of a very good kind and she will be missed greatly.

I was shocked and saddened by the news of Carrie's accident. I got to know her during her tenure at EM and Mix magazines. She was intelligent, dedicated, concerned and truly helpful on every occasion that we worked together. She made this world a better place every day. She will be missed by many.

Though it had been many years since we worked together, I never forgot her smile. Or her laugh. Carrie's leaving like this is a great loss to all of us, especially her family. For them, I wish this painful time to pass as easily as possible and that they be left with only the good memories of Carrie.

Carrie -

You were so warm and welcoming to me in the days of "Richard and Suzanne"... I remember the Christmas we spent at my Mom's and I'm honored you borrowed my pearls for your beautiful wedding to Dave. I love that I was able to spend time with you in the mountains and I'm forever touched to have been invited to Ashley's graduation party. Most of all I remember you as a "gardener" ... like me you love to potter about your yard and make things beautiful for those around you ... I'm sure you're doing that in Heaven! I will miss you ... I will remember you ...ALWAYS.

I was shocked and saddened to read today of Carrie's passing. We were acquainted at BU. Although I did not know her well, I clearly remember her laugh and her smile ... and her enthusiasm for tap-dancing. (Did she keep that up after college?) She was so friendly and outgoing. I can only imagine how much those who love her and who knew her well must miss her. May happy, loving memories help console you in your grief.
My deepest sympathy,
