I recall having the honor of meeting Jack at the Christening of the golf practice facility he donated I believe in 2007. What a generous gesture for someone who was a baseball player! Jack was truly a remarkable man. He will be sorely missed. My belated condolences. To the family.

Dear Mrs. Gifford and Family,
I worked for Maxim Integrated Products as a design engineer in Hillsboro Oregon. I was always impressed with Jack’s very passionate and personal style.
We have a 16 year old son with autism. Many autistic children desperately need a great deal of help, yet historically the world has not shown much interest in providing effective intervention for children and especially adolescents suffering from this neurobiological disorder.
We had been providing effective treatment for our son. This consumes much of my wife’s time and providing enough help for our son in spite of her efforts is financially very costly. Our story within the autism community was not too unique as it was driving us towards bankruptcy in spite of my engineer’s salary. Perhaps you have seen some of the specials on television about families dealing with autism.
I approached Jack with a letter about three years ago and asked him to support effective autism treatments for the children of his employees though Maxim health insurance. Based upon the inputs of myself and apparently one other employee, Jack decided quickly and decisively to honor my request! Jack put together one of the most flexible and generous autism benefits on the planet! And unlike some programs at other companies, it serves older autistic children through age 19!
Since that time, other companies, and state insurance programs have followed the leadership of CEO’s like Jack in defining autism as medically treated condition! I even approached the CEO of my new company since I left Maxim, cited the decisive action of Jack Gifford, and got a similar benefit with this new employer! Today we find that President Obama is working on national autism legislation. While the final autism bill likely will not be as generous as the Maxim program, that legislation will to some extent reflect what Jack did at Maxim for families like ours.
Jack will always be a hero to our family and he has left his mark on the autism community world wide!
Sincerely,
Carl Stuebing

Working for Jack at Maxim was such an honor and a privelige. I cannot begin to say how deeply Barb and I feel the loss of Jack. We deeply appreciate and remember all he did for us. He sent Barb flowers every birthday with a little signed note, signifying respect for her part in the effort at Maxim. He drove Maxim to a big success which afforded us the opportunity to thrive and move in the high-technolgy arena of Silicon Valley. Jack loomed larger than life among all that knew him, and he was such an excellent leader. Jack taught all of us the basic principles of how a strong vibrant business with personal accountability and a set of 13 principles could forge lasting, and permanent results and relationships.
Our deepest and most sincere thanks and consolation to Rhodine and family, we are with you in spirit.
