I was so fortunate in knowing J.R. He made my old Schreiber bassoon playable more than once, even learned to play one, I think, so he could repair this difficult instrument! A good man!

My fondest memory of J.R. is when the two of us hiked a 4 hour hike around Pinecrest Lake. My mom and Dolores were worried sick about us.

I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to get to know JR when he started dating and then married Dolores. Then, when he started playing French Horn, I got to sit next to him in the same section. It was then when I realized how talented he was and how many different instruments he could play. He was such a wonderful person and he will truly be missed. Our horn section in band will not be the same without him. We even had an extra chair for him with us in our horn section at the memorial service!! We ALL miss you, JR!!!!!

J.R. was a wonderful friend. He was always asking me how I was doing and how my house was coming along. He gave me sound advice when I was looking for a teaching position in the Modesto area and would always keep an ear out for anything that would come open. He always had a smile and right up to the end was making us smile. Ernie, Karen, Dolores and I were sitting there keeping J.R. company a week or so ago and we were discussing something about milk and how it calms some peoples stomachs and Dolores asked J.R., "Why do you drink milk?" because J.R. used to drink a lot of it. J.R. called back from the couch, "Because it tastes good." I just really got a kick out of that answer and the way he said it was hilarious. I wish I had been in Modesto earlier so that I could have known him and his family longer. I am thankful that I knew him when he was alive and I will never forget him. I am always willing to help in any way that I can.

My thoughts and prayers are with Dolores and the family. J.R. was very very dear to me and he leaves a hole that simply cannot be filled. A great musician, a wonderful friend, a caring husband, a lover of nature and music, JR was all this and more. He was one of those rare people in your life that no matter how long between the times you spoke, you picked up the conversation as though it were but a few minutes ago. Godspeed my dear friend, until we meet again.

Oh, how he will be missed. I enjoyed playing with him in different bands and having him keep my instruments repaired. If I had a question about music whether it was musical or about one of my instruments, J.R. always had the answer and never seemed to get tired of my endless questions. I will miss his smiling face, his wise counsel and his perfect bass line in jazz class. Rest in peace and may God Bless you and your family.
