CHAMPAIGN – Jane Sullivan Murphy died at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Drive West, Savoy, with a rosary at 4:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 405 W. Clark St., Champaign. Monsignor Albert Hallin and the Rev. Father Stephen Willard will officiate. Burial will follow in Saint Mary's Cemetery, Champaign.
She was born Jan. 23, 1931, in Kansas City, Mo., to Giles Sullivan and Phyllis Burt Sullivan. Following her mother's death, she was raised by her father and her stepmother, Ellen White Sullivan. They preceded her in death. She was married to Dwyer Murphy on Sept. 20, 1952, at Holy Cross Church. He survives.
Also surviving are her brother, Jim (Rachael) Sullivan and her children, Kathy Murphy, Tim (Kim) Murphy, Joe (Kim) Murphy and Mike Murphy, all of Champaign, and Molly (Jonathan) Spence of Brentwood, Tenn., along with grandchildren, Katy, Becky, Ryan, Cullyn, Quinn and Maeve Murphy and Dana and Madison Spence.
She attended Holy Cross School, University High School and Georgetown Visitation High School before graduating from Champaign High School in 1947. She graduated from the University of Illinois in 1951 with a degree in speech therapy.
She was active in Service League, Girl Scouts, Art Club, Urban League Board and SIDS Bridge. She was a member of Holy Cross Parish and the Champaign Country Club. She supported the Eastern Illinois Food Bank and the Catholic Worker House.
Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross School or the High School of Saint Thomas More.
