Nicole Laws-Carroll Obituary

ST. JOSEPH – Nicole Laws-Carroll, an intensely curious student of life; a compassionate, intuitive teacher; and a beautiful, spiritual dancer, died Tuesday night, April 24, 2007, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. She was 34.

Her death leaves four unique children, Anastasia, Rowan, Autumn Grace and Melissa. She was the passionately loved wife of Jeff Carroll. Nicole was taken from us by advanced breast cancer. She fought with courage. Memorials should be made to the American Cancer Society.

A wake will be held at Nicole's home, 401 W. Grand Ave., St. Joseph, on Saturday, April 28, from 2 p.m. until it ends. Freese Funeral Home, 302 E. Grand St., St. Joseph, is handling arrangements.

Nicole was born Feb. 14, 1973, to Mathew Laws III and Juliette Tacon and was raised in Mobile, Ala., along with her sister, Amber.

Nicole attended the graduate program in educational psychology at the University of Illinois. It was her hope to research attachment relationships between partners, and then apply what she learned to teach couples how to understand each other deeply.

She also created Pangaea Dance, a dance company that teaches and performs various dance forms, including Raks Sharki and American Tribal. As she taught, she also educated her students about the heritage of each dance, the value and capability of women in other cultures and the ways in which dance can help you engage in life. Her writings and videos can be found at www.cubellydance.com.

In her short time, Nicole brought joy and wisdom to our world. She will be remembered as an enlightened friend, partner, daughter and mother.

I didn't get a chance to know Nicole well but I could tell she was truly a special person. We met while we were both undergoing treatment for cancer. I will always have a special place in my heart for her as we were both young women fighting breast cancer. I am sorry she lost her battle so soon. My thoughts and prayers are with her family during this extremely painful time.

Nicole was a true Aquarius, in that she spread the waters of life over all that she met, and did not discriminate. She was the kind of person that you wanted to keep all to yourself...but then you soon realize that the kind of Light she possessed couldn't be contained, and had to touch all that it encountered. I will miss our phone conversations so much, and I will miss dancing with her. In a world full of Belly Dancers who want to tear you down, Nicole would lift you up. She was so above and beyond any kind of pettiness. God took back one of his Angels, that I am sure of. She was not of this world...

Love...Katya xoxo

The first hafla Nicole had in St. Jo
was quite memorable. Her young daughters helped her make roll-ups for the snack table. Watching her patience with her little ones made a lasting impression.

Nicole was certainly an exceptional individual. Her charm and joy flooded any room she entered. Her serene nature brought peace to all those who drew near to her. She will be deeply missed, yet an inspiration to all. Those who knew her could fill pages upon pages describing her incredible persona. How amazing that one peson can so deeply affect so many lives in such a short time here on Earth.

Goodbye and peace be upon you Nicole. Shalom.

I am a student at the University of Illinois and was very fortunate to have Nichole as a TA for Educational Psychology. She was a joy to be around and she spread her compassion for learning and teaching to each of her students. Even on days when we knew she wasn't feeling good, she still managed to greet us with a smile and give it her all. She was a great role model for each of her students after everything she has overcome, and she inspired us to always do our best. My greatest sympathy goes out to all of Nichole's family and friends. We are all very blessed to have met such an amazing woman.

To Nicole's friends, family, and loved ones,

I was a student of Nicole's during the fall semester of 2006 at the U of Illinois. Nicole was a bright light in learning for all her students. She made the class fun and exciting with her enthusiasm and passion for teaching. I know she touched my life deeply and inspired me to become the best student, friend, and future teacher I can be. I will miss her greatly.

My sympathies go out to all of those who were close to and loved Nicole. She may not be here in person, but remember her enthusiastic and fun-loving spirit will remain.

Nicole I thought was the most beutiful lady inside and out. I loved to watch her dance. She gave me insperation to strive to be a better mom, even though I couldn't come close to being the kind of mom she was. The ones of us who had the chance to meet her are changed for life for the better. I have been praying for her and the family sence I learned of her illness and will keep on praying. May God keep his arms around each one of you.
