 SAVOY – Thelma "Teddy" Bortner, 76, of Savoy died on Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. There will be a visitation on Wednesday, Jan. 14, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at Owens Funeral Home, 101 N. Elm St., Champaign. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 15, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1700 Crescent Drive, Champaign. Rev. Laura Aull and Ms. Dorey Riegel will officiate. Interment will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens. Teddy was born on May 30, 1932, in Blairsville, Pa., a daughter of Albert and Mary (Lowry) Jeffries. She married Daniel Bortner in Winchester, Va., on Dec. 29, 1950. He preceded her in death in 1993. She was also preceded by one son, Daniel L. Bortner and one sister, Claire Jeffries. She is survived by her children and their families, Bernard and Stacey Bortner of Urbana, Lisa and Bill Newton of Olive Branch, Miss., Philip and Shannon Bortner of Bement; grandchildren Christie and Joe Summers of Champaign, Dawn Bortner and Lora Bortner of Urbana, Tyler Sondag, Noah Sondag and Levi Newton, all of Olive Branch, Miss., Jesse Gifford and Gabriel Bortner of Bement; one sister, Lois Lore of Greensburg, Pa.; and a brother, Glenn Jeffries of Butler, Pa. Teddy graduated from Blairsville High School. She was proud to have been a majorette and a member of the National Honor Society. She was a faithful member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Teddy had been a choir member since 1968, a Sunday school teacher and an elder in the church. She worked at Kraft Foods as a lab analyst from 1969-1988 and also at Champaign County Nursing Home as a nurse's aide. Memorials may be made to the Westminster Presbyterian Church or the .
