 CHAMPAIGN – Maurice S. McLoughlin, 85, of Champaign died Oct. 20, 2008, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Private family services will be held. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in the Memorial Garden of the First Presbyterian Church, Champaign. Mr. McLoughlin was born Sept. 23, 1923, in Ivesdale, a son of H. Dwight and Berintha Sievers McLoughlin. He married Helen St. John on April 30, 1947. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Cathy (David) Weldon of Grand Junction, Colo., and Mrs. Linda (James) Cobb of Lexington, Ky.; two granddaughters, Sarah Cobb Rucker and Amy Porter; two great-granddaughters, Chelsie and Amelia; two sisters, Kathleen Miner of Chicago and Phyllis Kehnemuji of Tarpon Springs, Fla. He was a loving, devoted husband and family man and will be greatly missed. Mr. McLoughlin graduated from Champaign High School in 1942 and the University of Illinois in Agronomy in 1954. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps for three and half years on the USS Belleau Wood throughout the Pacific receiving four bronze stars and was with the first Marine detachment in the occupation of Japan. He was employed as an engineer for the Illinois Central RR, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 240, American Horticultural Society, and First Presbyterian Church of Champaign. He was an avid gardener and reader. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Champaign-Urbana.
