RANTOUL – Frances Elizabeth Adams, 91, of Rantoul, formerly of Hillsboro, died at 11:17 p.m. Friday (Oct. 30, 2009) at Heartland Health Care Center, Paxton.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home, Hillsboro. Pastor Steve Revisky will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Ridge Cemetery, Honey Bend, with military rites accorded. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
ST. JOSEPH – Major David Audo, of St. Joseph died Oct. 27, 2009, in Iraq.
The original location of services has been changed. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Living Word Fellowship Church, 1000 Park Place Ave., St. Joseph. Burial will be in Danville National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Freese Funeral Home, 302 E. Grand Ave., St. Joseph.
OAKLAND – Marilyn S. Bevill, age 73 of Oakland, passed away at 4:40 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Standard Funeral Home in Oakland, with Reverend Robert E. Lee officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call after noon on Friday at Standard Funeral Home in Oakland, where the family will be present for visitation from 5 to 7 p.m.
Marilyn Sue was born on March 18, 1936, in Christopher, the daughter of Harry N. and Ella E. Spann Harvey. She was educated in Christopher, graduating from Christopher High School in 1954. On May 23, 1953, she married Richard Fitzhugh Bevill in Corinth, Miss.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Bevill of Oakland; one daughter, Alicia Davis and husband Joe of Athens, Ga.; one son, Brian Bevill of Charleston; two grandsons, Drake and Drew Bevill; four granddaughters, Jade Bevill, and Mia Catherine, Ella, and Julia Davis; and one sister, Sharon Harvey of Champaign.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Marilyn was a homemaker, wife, and mother, and enjoyed growing her own food and cooking it. She was very involved in the produce business with her husband at River Bend Farm. In her earlier years, Marilyn worked for the Illinois Geological Survey and the Illinois State Water Survey. She was also employed through the University of Illinois, and later worked as a receptionist in the veterinary office she and her husband owned in Sesser.
Marilyn was a member of the Coles County Farm Bureau and the University of Illinois Veterinary Wives. She was an excellent typist and stenographer, and loved to read and work word puzzles.
A memorial fund is being established for the ALS Foundation.
PAXTON – Floyd Daniel Birkey, 90, of Paxton passed away at 5:55 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at Heartland Health Care Center in Paxton.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at the East Bend Mennonite Church in Fisher, with Rev. Michael Dean and Rev. Terry Westerfield officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Brook Cemetery, Fisher, with military graveside rites.
Visitation will be at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E. Pells St., Paxton, from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday Nov. 4.
Floyd was born on Nov. 20, 1918, in Foosland, the son of Alvin and Amelia Zehr Birkey. He married Jean Allen on Feb. 27, 1941, in Chicago. She survives.
Also surviving are his daughters, Shirley (Roger) Greenup of Brentwood, Tenn., and Donna Alsteen of Thomasboro; his sons Ron (RaNae) Birkey of Danville and Brian Birkey of Paxton; three granddaughters, Holly Ashford of Thomasboro, Carrie (Baron) Verge of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Kathryn (Jeff) McCoy of Hillsdale, Ind; four great-grandchildren, Brandon, Arianna, Jakin and Isabella; his brother, Carroll "Kelly" (Minerva) Birkey of Paxton; two sisters, Viola Stacy of Fisher, and Margret Oyer of Meadows.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers.
Floyd attended the Dixon one-room school house in rural Foosland. After eight years of grade school, he had to go to work on the farm due to the Great Depression. He later received his High School GED after retirement.
He was stationed in the Army in the Pacific during World War II and was a T/Sgt. in the 950th Ordnance.
After the war, he returned home to manage Springer Implement in Fisher. Floyd co-founded and was the past president of Birkey's Farm Store, which started in 1954. He retired in 1978 then moved and lived in Horseshoe Bend, Ark., for 22 years.
Floyd was baptized at the East Bend Mennonite Church and was a current member of the First Methodist Church in Paxton. He loved baseball and was an avid White Sox fan.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the AMVETS, and the Lions Club.
He was mayor of Fisher from 1952 to 1954. But most of all he loved being with his family.
Memorial donations can be made in his name to the , The Heartland Health Care Center in Paxton and the East Bend Mennonite Church.
HOOPESTON – David Brewster, 52, of Hoopeston died at 6:30 a.m. Monday (Nov. 2, 2009) at home. Funeral arrangements were incomplete at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St., Hoopeston.
KINCAID – Laura M. Staffaroni Cowgill, age 92, of Kincaid died at 10:05 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, at Bridle Brook Adult Community in Mahomet.
She was born Dec. 2, 1916, in Franklin, Kan., the daughter of Louis and Zelinda Paffi Staffaroni. Laura graduated from Kincaid High School and later the Springfield School of Beauty. She worked as a beautician for a short time. She then worked at the ammunition plant in Illiopolis during World War II.
After the war she worked at a grocery store in Kincaid for a short time before going to work at My Store in Taylorville, where she worked for many years. She was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church in Kincaid.
Surviving are her son, Jack E.L. and wife Deborah Cowgill of Gibson City; grandson Todd and wife Bich Cowgill of Pewaukee, Wis.; granddaughter Kristin and husband Daron Osman of Mahomet; great-grandsons Maxwell Osman and Carter Osman; great-granddaughters Amelia Osman and Halle Cowgill; and step-grandsons Gregory Johnson, Bradley Johnson and Douglas Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Louis "Babe" Staffaroni Jr.; and daughter-in-law, Sally Ann Cowgill.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26, at St. Rita Catholic Church in Kincaid, with Fr. Alan Hunter officiating. Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.
Pallbearers were Todd Cowgill, Daron Osman, Roger Frandfen, Ron Brusa, Chuck Taylor, Doug Johnson and Brad Johnson.
Visitation was held 9:30 a.m. until the time of services on Monday in the church.
Masterson Funeral Home in Kincaid was in charge of arrangements.
CANTRALL – Dale Eugene Denny Sr., 56, of Cantrall, formerly of Lincoln, passed away Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at his residence.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home in Lincoln with Rev. Larry Crawford officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, also at the funeral home.
Dale was born Aug. 8, 1953, in Lincoln, the son of John Denny and Betty Louise Karrick Denny.
He was a free spirit who just was what he was. He loved his family and friends and missed his Mama dearly. They are together now, watching over all of you.
Surviving are his sons, John Denny and his wife Shelli of Pekin, one son of Lincoln, and Dale Denny Jr. and his wife Billie Jo of Gibson City; 14 grandchildren; sisters Dixie Doty of Winterhaven, Fla., Barbara Entwistle of Chatam, Rebecca Tellefsen of CLinton, Chris Miller of Lincoln and Donna Berry of Bismarck, Mo.; brothers Richard Denny of Armington, Donnie Fulmer of Lincoln and Ronnie Fulmer of Wright City, Mo.; his fiance, Barb Shadley.
He was preceded in death by his dad John Denny, his mom Betty Louise Fulmer, and his sister Margaret Joanne Steffens.

URBANA – Richard Greenberg, the artist, died Oct. 25, 2009, at Provena Covenant Medical Center.
Richard was born in April 1941 in Jersey City, N.J., a son of Roy and Edythe Greenberg.
Richard worked for many years in the Los Angeles and Northern California areas as a Yellow Page artist, technical illustrator, sign painter and fine artist.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Sasha Greenberg of Pacific Grove, Calif.; and his brother, Mic Greenberg of Champaign.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Friends who wish to remember him can see his paintings all around town and at the Cinema Gallery in Urbana.
WHITE HEATH – Leslie Emerson Hassinger, 95, of White Heath passed away Nov. 1, 2009, at 6:10 a.m. at Bement Health Care Center in Bement.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton. Minister Steve Ingram will officiate. Interment will be in Ingram Cemetery, White Heath.

Leslie was born Nov. 21, 1913, in Lane, to Harry E. and Ethel (Nelson) Hassinger. On Oct. 19, 1938, Leslie married Alma A. Greenarch in Covington, Ind. Alma passed away Feb. 25, 2001.
Mr. Hassinger is survived by his children, Vera A. Rudisill of White Heath, Linda Hyatt (Don) of White Heath, Carol Hicks (Gil) of Monticello and Ivan Hassinger (Mary) or Urbana; as well as one brother, Orville Hassinger (Sharon) of Kenosha, Wis; and 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
His parents, one brother and seven sisters preceded him in death.
Mr. Hassinger was a member or the First Christian Church, Monticello, and a retired 30-year employee of Wabash Railroad.
CHARLESTON – F. Dyalene Haworth, 64, of Charleston died at 9:55 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 31, 2009) at Hilltop Convalescent Center in Charleston.

URBANA – Clara N. Tarter, 59, of Urbana passed away at 11:48 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Road, Urbana. Burial will be held at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign. Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Tarter was born Dec. 8, 1949, in Champaign, a daughter of Robert James and Velna (Bunting) Hildreth. She married Ralph Tarter on Dec. 9, 1967, in Urbana. He survives.
Also surviving are five brothers, Robert E. Hildreth of South Carolina, Marion C. Hildreth of Tolono, and Raymond Hildreth, Thomas Hildreth and Richard Hildreth, all of South Carolina; and three sisters, Connie Neumann of Georgia, Cheryl Castle of Urbana and Cathy Price, also of Urbana.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a sister.
Mrs. Tarter retired from the University of Illinois Illini Union and she enjoyed gambling and gardening.

MALTA – Opal M. Wilson, 88, of Malta passed away on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb.
She was born on May 4, 1921, in Waterman, the daughter of John W. and Mildred (Johnson) Suddeth. Opal married Joseph D. Wilson on May 23, 1942, in Waterman.
Opal grew up on a farm in Shabbona and later graduated from Shabbona High School. She farmed with Joseph most of her life in DeKalb and Lee counties. She later retired from DeKalb Ag. Opal was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Rochelle, DeKalb County Home Extension - Malta Chapter, DeKalb County Farm Bureau, the Prime Timers, a quilt group at the Resource Bank and was a DeKalb Ag Alumna.
She is survived by her four children, Rev. Joy (Ronald) Myers of Glen Carbon, David (Jackie) Wilson of Mahomet, Dennis (John Farley) Wilson of Baltimore, Md., and James (Freddy) Wilson of Malta; eight grandchildren, Brigit (Scott) Moseley of Rochelle, Kelly (Daryl) Hannon of North Aurora, Tracy (Greg) Jozefowicz of Rochelle, Lindsay (Jesse) Bennefield of Mission, Texas, Loni (Stan Metzler) Wilson of DeKalb, Kimberly (Amanda Evans) Wilson of Chicago, Amy (Brian) Blahnik of Johnston, Iowa, and Joe (Amy) Wilson of Buncombe; five great-grandchildren, Madison and Brady Jozefowicz, Rylie and Hunter Hannon, and Tanner Blahnik; siblings Marivene Tyne of Shabbona, Jean Nelson of DeKalb and James (Kathy) Suddeth of Fennimore, Wis.; a sister-in-law, Bernice Suddeth of Shabbona. She is survived by a large extended family and many nieces, nephews and well-loved friends.
