URBANA - Hattie Mae Aikens, 87, of Urbana died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at noon Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at Grove Street Church of God In Christ with Dist. Elder Michael Giboney officiating. Visitation will be one hour before service at the church. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Urbana. Professional services were entrusted to Perry's Twin City Mortuary Service.

Hattie Mae was born on Jan. 1, 1922, in Anderson, S.C., to the union of Luther Crawford and Alma Ruth (Stowers) Crawford. She was married to Clint Aikens; he preceded her in death.

She accepted Christ in her life and was a member of the Restoration Church.

She leaves to cherish her memories her daughters, Barbara (Avery Sr.) Washington of Champaign, Ruth Postell of Marbury and Alabama and Mamie Lindsey of Hampton, Va.; her son, Jimmy Calvin Lindsey of California; her brothers, Luther Crawford, John Calvin (Helen) Crawford and Robert (Margie) Crawford, all of New York, and Horace (Donna) Crawford of South Carolina; her sisters, Frances Esaw of South Carolina, Sally Butler of Washington, D.C., and Willie Mae Williams of New York; 27 grandchildren; 89 great-grandchildren; 27 great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, husband and siblings Betty Jones, Alice Lindsey and Charles Crawford.

Special thanks to nurse Judy from Provena and all who helped care for our loved one and to all whom have showed us love during our time of bereavement.

Brittingham, Samuel

CARMEL, Ind. - Samuel E. Brittingham, 90, of Carmel, Ind., and formerly Danville, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at Sunrise on Old Meridian in Carmel.

Services will be at 1 p.m., Friday, Nov. 6, at Pape Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams, Danville, with Pastor Ken Cox officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Pape's. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Danville.

Sam was born May 20, 1919, in Danville to Samuel E. and Esther Moore Brittingham. He attended Roselawn Elementary School and graduated from Danville High School. He earned a bachelor's degree in commerce from the University of Illinois in 1941.

During World War II he served in the Army Air Corps in Wichita Falls, Texas.

He worked at the Jewell Tea Company in Peoria and Consolidated Products Company in Danville and Des Moines, Iowa, where he also worked for Look Magazine. He returned to Danville and was a partner in Cash & Carry Lumber from 1971 to 1992. While living in Danville, he was a member of Saint James United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Virginia Stuebe Brittingham; his sister, Esther Ellen Brittingham (Tom) Wyman of Palo Alto, Calif.; two daughters, Barbara Brittingham of Cambridge, Mass., and Marianne Mimi Brittingham (Bill Rosenbaum) of Indianapolis, Ind.; and a sister-in-law Joan Brittingham of Georgetown; and special friends Marguerite (Henry) Robinson.

He also leaves nieces and nephews Mark (Kathy) Brittingham, Cathy Brittingham, Sam (Shasi) Brittingham, Debra (David) Isabella, Lea Brittingham, Darrell Dwayne (Sherry) Glass, Greg (Michael) Glass, Martin Evan Glass, Thomas (Susie) Wyman and Susan Dowdy, John Stuebe, David (Shelby) and Dan (Jesse) Pezzullo and their children Alyssa, Thomas, Ella, and Drew; great-nieces and nephews Audrey, Frances, Sam Brittingham; Samantha and Macey Wyman, Casey and Mackenzie Dowdy, Morgan Brittingham, Lola Mae Spencer, Nathaniel and Olivia Brittingham, Michael, Shannon, Sheila, Austin and Janette Glass, and Jill (Jim) Stuebe Gracia, and Matt Stuebe.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Frank Brittingham and Jerry Brittingham; his sister, Mary Brittingham Glass; Thomas Pezzullo, Barbara's husband; and by nephew Robert Glass.

Sam was a devoted and loving husband, father, uncle, and friend. He was an avid reader and particularly enjoyed ancient history and maps. He liked crossword puzzles, travel, and gardening. He loved fishing, and the fish were nearly always safe.

Budinger, Lodema

MESA, Ariz. - Lodema Lois Budinger, 85, of Mesa, Ariz., peacefully passed away on Oct. 21, 2009, after a short stay in Banner Hospice.

Lodema was born to Deam and Lola (Law) Mullen on Jan. 30, 1924, in Taylorville.

She spent the majority of her early years growing up on her parents farm south of Tolono.

She attended the University of Illinois and was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority, where she met the love of her life at a USO function. She and Lt. Fred W. Budinger were married Jan. 25, 1944, and after Fred returned from World War II they dedicated their lives to raising their children on the same farm where she grew up.

Lodema was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years in 1997. In 1998 she moved to Mesa, Ariz., where she was an avid bridge player and an active volunteer for Banner Hospice for many years.

She is survived by her three sons, Fred Jr. (LeeAnn) of Franktown, Colo., Kerry (Vicki) of Mesa, Ariz., Kris (Gail) of Centennial, Colo.; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

As per her wishes, a family celebration of her life was held at her home on Oct. 24, 2009.

Clark, Ralph

COVINGTON, Ind. - Ralph Kelly Clark, 83, of Covington, Ind., died at 9 p.m. Wednesday (Nov. 4, 2009) at the Veterans Affairs Illiana Health Care System, Danville.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. EST Saturday at Shelby Funeral Home, 622 Third St., Covington, Ind. Chaplain Paul Witt will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Covington, Ind., with military honors by the VFW and American Legion. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. EST Friday at the funeral home.

Dobronski, Paralee

CHAMPAIGN - Funeral services for Paralee Dobronski age 94, of Champaign will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9 at the South Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons, 1544 S. Highland Ave., Jackson, Tenn.

Burial will follow at Ridgecrest Cemetery, Jackson.

Mrs. Dobronski, the widow of Stephen Robert Dobronski died Sunday at her residence.

She was born in Booneville, Miss., on April 1, 1915, the daughter of the late Labron and Effie Cox Harris, and was a homemaker and a member of the Temple Baptist Church of Champaign.

She is survived by two sons, Andrew Dallas (Barbara) of Urbana and Bruce Dobronski of California, and one grandson, Robert Nathan Dallas of Urbana.

The family will receive friends on Monday, Nov. 9, from 11 a.m. until the service time.

THAWVILLE - Marvin E. Hoover, 80, of Thawville, died at 5:55 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at the Greenbrier Senior Living Center in Piper City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday Nov. 7, at the Living Word Church in Thawville, with Pastor Douglas Lee officiating. Burial will be in the Ridgeland Township Cemetery in Thawville. Visitation will be held one hour before the services on Saturday at the church.

Mr. Hoover was born April 13, 1929, in Thawville, a son of Ervin and Vernal L. (Weber) Hoover. He married Marilyn J. Lehnert on June 18, 1950, in Thawville. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Jeffrey Hoover and Scott Hoover of Thawville and Paul (Malinda) Hoover of Schaumburg; a daughter, Jayne (Larry) Donavon of Arlington, Texas; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Floyd (Delores) Hoover of Hot Springs, Ark., and Bob (Darlene) Hoover of Decatur; and five sisters, Ervaleen (Forest) Smith of Thawville, Lila (Russell) Reed of Onarga, Wanda (David) Caldwell of Marietta, Georgia, Gail Harper of Bloomington and Sharon (Jim) Lee of Onarga.

He was preceded in death by one son, Mark, and his parents. Marvin retired from Central Soya in Gibson City after 39 years of service as a supervisor.

He was a member of the Living Word Church in Roberts. Thawville Fire Department and he served as secretary/treasurer for many years.

He enjoyed fishing and playing baseball. Memorial tributes may be made to his church. Lamb-Young Funeral Home in Roberts is handling the arrangements.

Turner, Wendell

CAMARGO - Wendell W. Turner, age 93, of Camargo died at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at his home in Patterson Springs. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Joines Funeral Home, Illinois 130 South, Villa Grove, with the Rev. Nicholas Showalter officiating. Burial will be in the Arthur Cemetery, Arthur.

Visitation will be two hours before the services at the funeral home.

Mr. Turner was born June 26, 1916, in Urbana, a son of Chester and Eva (Winn) Turner. He married Delores Fitzjarrald in 1939. She died in 1995.

Surviving are three daughters, Marilyn Graves of Newport Beach, Calif., Tish Turner of Waterloo and Debra Squitieri of Memphis, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and another on the way; two sisters, Bernita Lamb of Camargo and Delores Garrett of Port Charlotte. Fla.

Mr. Turner was preceded in death by his wife, Delores, and son, Roger, and two brothers.

Mr. Turner was a 1938 graduate of the University of Illinois and played in the marching band. He was a member of the Villa Grove Rotary and a member of the Villa Grove United Methodist Church. He owned and operated Turner Seed and Supply in Villa Grove for 66 years.

Memorials can be made to the Villa Grove United Methodist Church or to the Villa Grove Rotary Club.

Welch, Margaret

URBANA - Margaret Welch, 60, of Urbana died at 3:45 p.m. Nov. 3, 2009, at New Helia Healthcare of Champaign.

Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, Nov. 7, at Renner-Wikoff Chapel & Crematory, 1900 S. Philo Road, Urbana. The Rev. Holmes will officiate. Burial will be private. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the funeral home.

Margaret Welch was born Dec. 7, 1948, in Sturgis, Ky., a daughter of Lum and Anna Tapp Rose Sr. She married Fred Welch at the courthouse in Urbana. He preceded her in death. She moved to Chicago at age 17 where she met her longtime friend, Fred Fortson.

She is survived by her father; a son, Alonzo (Nina) Rose; four sisters, Sandra Jackson, Rita (Don) Estes, Mary Rose and Huberta Rose; two brothers, Jesse (Yvette) Rose and William "Tony" (Tonia) Rose; three grandchildren, Curtis Rose, Alonzo Rose II and Domonique Rose; one great-grandson; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Her mother and two brothers, Robert Rose and Lum Rose Jr., preceded her in death.

Mrs. Welch worked in the kitchen at Bromley Hall and at Costa Notre Dame, a halfway house for women in Chicago. She loved to make people laugh, she loved her family, she enjoyed life to the fullest, and will be dearly missed.
