 URBANA – Kristin Michele McCartney, 26, of Urbana passed away at 3:30 p.m. Friday. February 22, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 26, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 708 W. Main St., Urbana. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 25, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana. Kristin was born September 9, 1981, in Urbana. She is survived by her parents, Robert and Deborah McCartney Jr. and her brothers, Robert McCartney III and Darrin McCartney, all of Urbana. Kristin is also survived by her grandparents, Robert and Ruth McCartney Sr. and Tom Arie; her future sister-in-law Amanda Hamel; four aunts, three uncles, and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Betty Arie and an uncle, Scott Johnson. Kristin was a 1999 graduate of Urbana High School where she participated in varsity basketball, volleyball and softball. She graduated with honors from the University of Illinois in 2004 with a degree in Spanish. Kristin was a substitute teacher in the area and also worked at Mack's Auto Recycling during her five-year battle with cancer. Kristin touched many hearts during her courageous battle. Her positive attitude and unselfish concern for others was an inspiration to her family and friends.
