CHAMPAIGN – Eric Winston Stonner, 23, of Champaign passed away at 4:07 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2007, at Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Drive West, Savoy, with Reverend Doctor James Wright officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Sidney. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007, at the funeral home.

Mr. Stonner was born on Feb. 16, 1984, in Urbana. He was the son of Kent Edward and Ellen Winston Stonner. Surviving are his father, Kent Edward Stonner of Kennett, Mo.; his mother, Ellen Stonner of Champaign; his maternal grandmother, Marguerite Winston of Champaign; his paternal grandmother, Ann Stonner of Tipton, Mo.; his maternal uncle, Miller Winston of Champaign; his maternal aunt and uncle, Don and Susan Akers of Champaign; his paternal aunts and uncles, Cary (Deborah) Stonner of Tipton, Mo., and Jerry (Isabel) La Brue of Osage Beach, Mo.; his paternal uncle, Bob Stonner of Tipton, Mo.; and his cousins, Jeremiah, Westen, Kyle, Sydney and Kelly Ann. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Nelson Stonner; and his maternal grandfather, Howard Willis Winston.

Mr. Stonner took his kindergarten year from his aunt Susan at the Pesotum Grade School. He attended St. John Lutheran School from first grade through eighth grade. He graduated from Champaign Centennial High School in 2002, where he was on the football team for four years. He was a student at Parkland College. He received two scholarships from the Champaign County Farm Bureau Foundation and was in the Young Ag. Leader Club. He studied agricultural management. He hoped to attend the University of Illinois. He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, Champaign. He enjoyed NASCAR (especially #8), IndyCar and Formula 1 Racing, golfing, fishing, traveling to Florida and spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid Illini football and basketball fan. He enjoyed the outdoors and working outside.

Zook, Stephen

FISHER – Stephen D. Zook, 56, of Fisher died Sunday evening (Feb. 25, 2007) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 27, 2007) at St. Malachy Church, Rantoul. The Rev. Stanley Malinowski will officiate. Burial will be at Willowbrook Cemetery, Fisher.

Stephen is the son of the late James G. and Leta P. Zook. He is survived at home by his wife, Carol and son, Gilvie of Fisher; also surviving are his brother, Doug Zook and sister, Deb Maynard, both of Fisher; and a sister, Dorothy Edwards of Knoxville.

Stephen was a deputy sheriff at the Champaign County Sheriff's Department and retired after 29 years of dedicated service. While at the Sheriff's Department, he worked as a patrol officer, crime scene investigator and accident reconstructionist. Stephen was instrumental in bringing the Fraternal Order of Police Collective Bargaining Unit to represent the deputies in their first contract negotiations. He was an active community member of the village of Fisher, serving as a village trustee, volunteer fireman and part-time police officer. He started the first volunteer ambulance service and EMT program, which was credited for saving numerous lives.

Stephen was a loving and caring husband, father, brother and friend. He enjoyed the company and companionship of those close to him. He will be truly missed.

Memorials may be made to the Fisher Fire Youth Football Program or an organization of the donor's choice.
