NEWMAN – Elizabeth "Beth" (Hawkins) Porter, 29, of Gulfport, Miss., formerly of Newman, died Tuesday (Feb. 26, 2008) at USA Medical Center, Mobile, Ala., along with her unborn son, Johnathan Reid Porter.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2008, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Philo. Father Keith Walder will officiate. Burial will be held at St. Thomas Cemetery, Bongard.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Joines Appleby Funeral Home, Newman, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Porter was born on October 13, 1978, in Champaign, a daughter of John Dean and Mary Mulcahey Hawkins, Newman. She married Josh Porter of Gulfport, Miss. He survives. Also surviving are her parents, John D. and Mary Hawkins of Newman; a brother, John Douglas Hawkins of Urbana; her maternal grandparents, Ed and Betty Mulcahey of Newman; her uncle and godfather, Thomas Mulcahey of Springfield; her aunt and godmother, Zala (Eric) Swigart of Newman; aunts Margaret Mulcahey and Theresa (Brian) Smith; uncles James Mulcahey, Sam (Teresa) Hawkins and Glen (Cindy) Hawkins; and numerous other family and friends.

Mrs. Porter was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents John Dean and Jean L. Hawkins.

Mrs. Porter was a graduate of Eastern Illinois University and was currently employed as an administrative manager at Lowe's, Waveland, Miss. She enjoyed spending time with her two dogs, Harley and Chopper.

Donations can be made to MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) and to the Humane Society.
