FISHER – Danny Lee Kimme, 27, of Fisher was killed along with two of his comrades in action north of Baghdad in Balad Province Jan. 16, 2008, while serving with the Army's 1st Squadron, 32nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).

For his actions, Danny was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart along with various service medals. His other awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon and Weapons Qualification Expert.

Danny was born Oct. 27, 1980, in Jacksonville, Ark. He was the son of Douglas J. Kimme of Fisher and Patricia Barry of Jacksonville, Ark. Danny is survived by his parents and his wife, Corinne (Johnstone) Kimme of Urbana. They were married March 1, 2007, in Columbus, Ga. Corinne is to give birth to their daughter, Dani Leah, this April. He is also survived by his brother, Steven, and his sister, Nicole, both of Jacksonville, Ark.

Danny volunteered for service to his country and chose to be on the front lines with his team. He was proud of his service to his country and his family is extraordinarily proud of him. The family wishes that Danny be remembered as a loving husband and son and as a hero for his nation.

Danny was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed competition shooting and was an expert marksman. He was also a devoted Arkansas Razorbacks fan.

Danny was buried with full military honors Jan. 26, 2008, in Cato Cemetery in Mayflower, Ark., next to the graves of his grandparents.

A local memorial service will be held at the Holiday Inn in Urbana Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Memorial donations for Danny's wife and unborn daughter can be made in Corinne's name and sent to Heartland Bank & Trust, 1101 W. Windsor Road, Champaign, IL 61821, attention Amanda Blythe. A memorial fund has also been established at the National City Bank, 507 S. Broadway, Urbana, IL 61801.
