NEWMAN – John Kent Morrow, 69, of Newman died at 6:30 p.m. (Monday, Aug. 27, 2007) at the Newman Rehabilitation Center in Newman. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday (Sept. 1) at the Newman United Methodist Church in Newman. The Pastor Sheila Kelley and the Rev. Scott Randolph will officiate. Burial will be held in the Newman Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. with a Masonic service to be held at 7:45 p.m. at the Joines Appleby Funeral Home (401 W. Gillogly St. Newman, IL 61942).

Mr. Morrow was born June 12, 1938, in Tuscola, a son of J Kent Morrow and Avis Revilla Myers Morrow. He married Lavonne I. Awick on June 4, 1960, in Newman. She survives.

Also surviving are three children, Tamara Knotts of Orlando, Fla., James Morrow of Champaign and John Henry Morrow of Mahomet; a granddaughter; and four grandsons. Also surviving are two sisters, Celana Ellis of Carmel, Ind., and Marda Arkebauer of Theinsville, Wis.

Mr. Morrow was a member of the Douglas County Board for two terms, from 1998 to 2006, a graduate of Eastern Illinois University and of the Illinois Bankers Association Graduate School of Banking and a former teacher at Washington School in Danville. He served as vice president of the First State Bank in Newman for 15 years and was the owner and operator of Morrow Insurance Agency Inc. in Newman, for 32 years.

Mr. Morrow also served as the Newman Township supervisor and was associated with the township board as a member for many years. He also served many years as the Newman Republican precinct committeeman and treasurer of the Douglas County Republican Central Committee; he served his community as the president as well as treasurer of the Newman County Library Board, and he worked with young boys as the Newman Boy Scout Master for 15 years. He was also an active member and former secretary of the Newman Masonic Lodge.

His hobbies included fishing, hunting and traveling.

Memorials may be made to the Newman United Methodist Church.

Joines-Appleby Funeral Home of Newman is in charge of arrangements.
