Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Wesley, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I wrote this a while back and it got returned & I have tried to get this to you in several ways. I hope you see this and know you are thought of.
Hi Gayle,
I don't know if you remember me but I met you a few years ago at Michael's
(craft store) and noticed your pin and asked you about your son. I will
never forget how stunned I was when you told me what had happened. I told
you my nephew had just joined the Navy-I never thought the Navy was needed
in iraq or africa etc. I have thought and prayed for you numerous times
over the past two years and especially on Veterans day. Tomorrow my daughters
school is doing a Veterans day program and to tell you the truth I have
been really pre-occupied with my own nephew(Brent Stiles) lately because at 21 he died
also in August.I never thought this would happen-he was due to get out of the service in Jan 08. But today as making my Christmas card list I came across
this little piece of paper with your name and email and I just thought I
would let you know I haven't forgot you or your son and now I share your
grief and I am sure I will never truly understand the loss you or my
sister feel(as mothers) but I hope you are doing better and I will pray for you and
remember you and your son tomorrow(and alot of other days too).
It is really funny how people come into your life that touch it and you
never even realize until later.
I had originally written in this 2 years ago after I met you. Again I am thinking and praying for you and your family.

Prayer for the living and those that have passed………
Oh Great Usen he walks with you now
Oh Great Spirit be with us always and give us strength
Let our prayers be heard, felt and shared
Heal our pain but do not let us forget
The smiles, the laughter, the good times
Let my Family be our strength and
Let those who have gone before us hear our prayers
That they remain by our side always and
That we remember them always
When we feel the wind and see the sun rise
And on the moonlit night when you hear
The silence or the Night Eagle (Owl) calling
And there among the stars and beyond
Let us one day see them and you Great Spirit
Let our faith in you be our strength
Oh Great Spirit be with us always

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

I think of Wes everyday and pray for his soul nightly. Wes was a wonderful and respectable young man. His death was not in vain. He is our hero. His friends included my sons A1C Augie Marshall (USAF) and PFC Benjamin Marshall (USMC), from "The Hill." Along with my sons and other family members who serve in the USAF, I will continue to keep Wes's family in my prayers, as I do all our military people.

Last night when Mekiya and I were making dinner, Mekiya noticed the picture of Wesley I have hanging on the fidge. "Mommy, whos that?" she asked. "Thats my cousin. He died almost 2 years ago in another country," I told her keeping in mind that she is not even 3 yet. She proceeded on with, "Why that happen to him?" I sat there for a moment trying to think of a way I could explain to my 2 year old daughter what happened to him. "He was in another country, far away, trying to keep everyone, including us, safe from bad, mean people. But their was an accident and he was killed." "I don't like those mean people," she said, "I love your cousin, he keep me safe from those bad people. I want to see him and give him a real big hug. I love him." I turned my head away and started to cry. "You will see him someday, I promise." With that Mekiya hugged my arm as hard as her little body would allow. Its like she knew what I was feeling. Wesley has been in my thoughts and dreams a little more than usual lately, and I don't know why. I miss him so much.

Dear Riggs Family,
I am a soldier in 2nd platoon, Delta Company 2/7 IN. I just want to say your son was a great friend. Wesley and I had rooms right next to each other. Most nights while the rest of the platoon would sleep for the few hours in between missions me and Wesley would stay up and play playstation or watch movies and such. Your son was an awsome person! His attitude towards life amazed me. He just took everything in stride and helped us all get through the tough times. Wesley had an impact on all of our lives that we will remember forever.

I had the distinct honor and privilage to serve with "Riggs" in our company. I remember the first day he reported to us, at Fort Stewart. He had that 'childlike' face, and constant smile, that hinted of mischief. I instantly thought of "Spanky" from the 'Little Rascals', and that is what I named him. As time passed everyone quickly learned that "Riggs" was special, and someone you wanted to be around. If there was work to be done he was always the first there to get it done, and the last to leave. He was loyal, dependable, and most of all contagious. Everyone loved him. Everywhere Riggs went you would see Stoltz, or vise-versa. They were inseperable. In Iraq, the two of them were always up to something. On several occasions they were successful at pulling off practical jokes on different people. I was lucky enough to be the target of several of these. The most memorable was when Riggs and Stoltz filled my room in Iraq with about 50-100 balloons. I miss that. I miss Riggs. The 17th of May is a date that I will never forget. I still see his smile, and those eyes. PFC Wesley Riggs IS a hero, if only there were more men from his mold in this world, it was most definately be a better place.

wes was one of my very best friends in mount belview. i moved in down the street from him in the summer of 2001 and right away we became friends. i remember when he came home for the last time and he called me to hang out. we all piled up into his new tahoe stoped by the army surplus store and then we went out to eat at a mexican food resturant in baytown. when he dropped me off at home i had no idea that, that would be the last time that i would ever see him. i feel very thankful and blessed to have been able to see him that last time. ill never forget all of those fun times that we had together even if we did get into trouble. i love you wess, ill always remember you and i know one day we will be together again.

PFC. Wesley Riggs was the bright sparkle in his Mothers eye. Even though it's a constant battle to fight the grief and saddness that consumes her and her other brave sons. This American is filled with heatbreak knowing Wesley's Mom,but am proud that these young Americans are risking and giving there lives for us at home.I would do anything in my power to help this beatiful and strong woman with her mourning, but all I can do is express my deep sorrow, and say you and your family will be in my prayers for ever.

He who has gone, so we but cherish his memory, abides with us, more potent, no, more present than the living man.

I was in line to check out the other day and noticed a pin attached to a ladies purse of a very handsome young boy. I asked her if that was her son and she replied "Yes, smiling big as always" I spoke about my 19 year old nephew who just came back from Iraq and was completely in shock when she said her son died. I just said "I am sorry". What else do you say? I wanted to find her and say I truly mean it. I am so sorry. It has been several days and I have thought about you and your mom alot, so much so that I didn't forget your name that I saw for one split second or how much love I saw in your mom's eyes when she spoke of you. I googled you and now I just wanted to express my appreciation for serving our country and let your family know how many lives you touch even now.

On October 23 1983 our family started down the long path that your family is traveling now. My brother Lance Cpl. Timothy McNeely was killed in the bombing of the American Headquarters in Lebanon. He was 19 when he was killed. The path you are own is LONG and very dark but with the support of others who are walking this path with you it will make the journey brighter. Our pride in what our guys stand for will forever be present. Wesley and all the brave people who serve our country are now and forever a hero.

I grew up in Baytown and graduated from Lee HS in 1966. My Mom and Dad owned Jim Nelson's Sporting Goods on Main St. I saw a news story of our war dead by hometown and was sruck by how a fellow Baytonian's death personalizes the loss of our precious children. I salute the courage of your son and your family's courage in allowing him to serve and sacrifice for each one of us. I will not forget and I will try to live up to his gift to me and my family. God Bless You.
