As the World Turns

For more than half a century, As the World Turns was a fan favorite, enjoying 20 straight years as the No. 1 daytime drama in the United States and eventually becoming the second-longest running soap on television. And for nearly all of the soap opera’s tenure, actress Helen Wagner was there.

Playing Nancy Hughes McClosky, who brought good old-fashioned values to the fictional town of Oakdale, Wagner – who would have turned 95 today – set a record of her own. With her amazing 52 years in the same role, she holds the record as the longest-serving actor in an American soap opera. In fact, no American television actor has played a single character longer than Wagner did.

As the World Turns ended its run a few years ago, airing its final episode just months after Wagner’s death. But for ATWT fans, the world keeps turning.
