"Live. Fight like hell. And when you get too tired to fight, lay down and rest and let somebody else fight for you."

ESPN anchor Stuart Scott died Jan. 4, 2015, after a long battle with cancer. He was 49.

The popular sportscaster was known for his colorful catchphrases, such as "As cool as the other side of the pillow," and use of hip hop culture in his broadcasts.

We remember Scott with a look at his career and emotional tributes from fans, colleagues, and pro athletes.

Rich Eisen was Scott's longtime on-air partner on ESPN's SportsCenter. Though he had moved on to the NFL Network by the time of Scott's passing, Eisen gave a moving tribute to his colleague and friend.

Scott gave a powerful speech about his battle with cancer at the ESPY awards in 2014.

"So live. Live. Fight like hell. And when you get too tired to fight, lay down and rest and let somebody else fight for you."
