Five people were shot and killed inside a Macy’s at Cascade Mall in Burlington, Washington, Friday, Sept. 23, 2016, according to multiple news sources.
The victims included four women and one man. It is not known if the victims knew the gunman. Authorities are still searching for the gunman, who they believe acted alone.
The shooting began at 7 p.m. local time. Burlington is about an hour north of Seattle.
The suspected shooter fled the scene before police arrived. A manhunt ensued, but darkness stymied the search. Police have released a photo of the suspected shooter captured by the mall’s closed-circuit surveillance cameras. The FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives are assisting local and state police in the search.
“Tragedy has struck in Washington tonight,” Washington Gov. Jay Inslee tweeted, “Trudi and I send our condolences to the families of the victims and prayers for anyone injured.”
