Seventy-five people were killed Monday night after a charter plane crashed in Colombia southeast of the city of Medellin, according to CNN.
Among the passengers was a secondary Brazilian soccer team that was to play Wednesday in Medellin in the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana final against Atletico Nacional. According to the Washington Post, team Chapecoense, known as Chape, were enjoying a fairytale season during which they had risen from obscurity to soccer glory in football-mad Brazil.
Most of the team’s members were aboard the flight. Six survivors were located, authorities said.
