Actor Nathaniel Marston, a former star of the soap opera "One Life To Live," has died, his mother, Elizabeth Jackson, announced Wednesday on Facebook. He was 40.
"My beloved and cherished son, Nathaniel Marston, who was putting up the good fight until last night, was not able to continue due to the traumatic and devastating nature of his injuries," she wrote. "Nathaniel passed away peacefully as I held him in my arms. … God ended Nathaniel’s pain and suffering at 3:15 today PST in Reno, NV."
Her son was involved in a car accident Oct. 30 near Reno, Nevada.
"Marston was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle during the course of the crash,” Nevada Highway Patrol told ET.
The actor was placed on life support after breaking his shoulder, ribs and five vertebrae in the crash.
"His injuries, which Dr.'s did their best to heal, were not responding to treatment, and one after another his bodily functions failed to support his life," Jackson continued in her Facebook post.
"Had Nathaniel lived he would have required a ventilator and would never have been able to utter one more word and would have been sentenced to life as a quadriplegic. A condition that Nate would have never have been able to tolerate. By God’s love and mercy Nathaniel was spared this living hell."
Marston played Michael McBain on "One Life To Live." He also appeared on "As the World Turns" until 1999.
His mother said on Facebook that memorial services are planned in New York City; Kauai, Hawaii; and Gerlach, Nevada. Dates will be posted on the social media site.
