A year after the tragic shooting, Mother Emanuel AME Church hosts a worldwide Acts of Amazing Grace Day

On June 17, 2015, a gunman shattered the peace inside Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, SC, murdering nine people participating in a bible study. The tragic event lasted just 90 seconds, but would forever affect the lives of those close to the Mother Emanuel AME Church community.

In the days that followed the shooting, the world was astounded by the kindness, love, and resilience shown by the family and friends of those nine people.

Members of the Mother Emanuel AME Church community have continued to put forth positivity and love in the days and weeks since the shooting, and people worldwide have showed their support. On June 21, 2016, Mother Emanuel AME Church hosts a worldwide Acts of Amazing Grace Day. On this date, everyone is encouraged to perform their own personal Act of Amazing Grace.

"This is an opportunity for those persons all over the world who felt deeply affected by the tragedy to personally do their part to be the change this world so desperately needs. Each individual's personal Act of Amazing Grace will be a living testimony that will honor those Emanuel nine. It will confirm that those precious lives did not end in vain and that love always wins!" - Marlena Davis, lifetime AME congregation member and member of the church's Commemoration Committee
