Maya Angelou's New Hip-Hop Album

America's most beloved poet laureate has one more gift to share with her fans. On Nov. 4, Maya Angelou will return in a new album, completed before her death, titled Caged Bird Songs. The album's 13 tracks are a collaborative effort involving Angelou, vocalist Shawn Rivera and producer RoccStarr, blending Angelou's poetry and vocals with hip-hop beats. Her grandson, Colin Johnson, told The Associated Press that Angelou was enthusiastic about the project, recording new vocal tracks at her home in North Carolina. "She loved it and was excited to hear more about what they wanted to do," Johnson said.

Angelou, who died in May at 86, was a three-time Grammy winner for her spoken-word albums. She also collaborated with Ashford and Simpson in 1996 and Common in 2001.
